Textual Analysis Of Nicki Minaj - Your Love

This video is a narrative based music video with a martial arts theme. The first scene of the music video shows red drapes blown by a wind for effect leading on to show Nicki Minaj (the artist) stand infront of more red drapes. The use red in the drapes can be a representation of seductiveness and lust aimed towards the artist she is also dressed slightly provocatively. When the artist is preforming she is by herself this can be seen as conventional because the lead or only artist is dominant within the scene in which she/he is preforming. It is clear what the narrative is about which is a fight between two women over a mans heart portrayed through the theme of samurai's. Throughout the video the two women are trying vigorously to please the man. this isn't as conventional like most modern videos because they are mostly set in this time period not over 400 years ago. The videos theme is reinforced by a famous actor known for his martial art skills. This can be considered as a post-modernist video as the narrative theme is unconventional to a modern music video with a narrative base. The video portrays Love and Hate In contrast to each other and the feud between the two women who both want the same thing. The death at the end of the video is to show how great the love for the samurai was. This Video has a strong narrative base and is very clear to understand and I believe it is a successful post-modernist video as its story line is generic but how it was portrayed through the use of a martial arts theme is. It keeps the audience entertained.
